Higher yields with I-Cut 10: Small size - great performance

When UK catering butchers R. Manners & Sons decided to switch to automatic portion cutting, they went straight to Marel and purchased an I-Cut 10 PortionCutter.

The company wanted to optimise their production of ready meals as well as of beef and pork products, so they decided to look for a portion cutter to handle the products that they had been cutting by hand.
Tony Manners, great-grandson of the founder, had previously worked with Marel’s AEW Delford, and was well aware of the company’s expertise in portioning. “I went online to look at the portion cutters that Marel offered, and after having done some research, I contacted their UK office. Within a few weeks I had an I-Cut 10 installed.”

The results have been very satisfying. “Previously the cutting was done by hand. There were six people involved in cutting pork bellies, leaving us with a yield of 80%. Now, using the I-Cut 10, our yield is up to 90% and we only need two people to handle the products and operate the PortionCutter,” explained Tony Manners.

Yield increase is not the only benefit that R. Manners & Sons has experienced with the I-Cut 10. “As well as increasing yield, we have also increased our throughput. What previously took a day to process can now be done in two hours,” said Tony Manners.This enables them to better deploy their manpower so that they can work on other orders, thus improving delivery times.

Uptime is crucial to R. Manners & Sons as to any producer, so good service support is crucial. Tony Manners points out that, “Marel is second to none when it comes to service. We always get help and support when we need it, and they make sure any downtime we experience is minimal.”

Looking to the future
“We are very pleased with the I-Cut 10 – it is nice and simple, and easy to use. With the machine running as well as it does, along with the service we receive from Marel, there is no doubt that next time we’re looking to buy a portion cutter the first call will be on Marel,” Tony Manners concludes.
